Woody Zorn
Board President, Bullitt East
Woody Zorn is a teacher at Hebron Middle School, where he has built a welcoming and competitive Speech and Debate program that helps students grow in confidence, leadership, and communication. With 27 years of coaching experience, Woody believes every student has a voice worth hearing, and he takes pride in guiding young people as they discover the power of their words.
His dedication has been recognized statewide and nationally. He has been named NSDA Kentucky Alumni of the Year, honored as KHSSL Debate Coach of the Year, and awarded KHSSL Junior High Coach of the Year three times. In recognition of his long-standing contributions to students and the activity, Woody was inducted into the KHSSL Hall of Fame.
Woody is also the proud grandson of Wilson Wyatt, the namesake of this league. Carrying forward his grandfather’s legacy, Woody is committed to fostering opportunities for students to grow as leaders and communicators, both in competition and in life.
Miranda Whitney
Board Member, Highlands Latin School
Miranda Whitney has been coaching at Highlands Latin School for three years. She has competed in both speech and debate through junior high and high school. During college she competed in parliamentary debate. Though new to the Kentucky speech and debate world she is passionate about students having access to the incredible opportunities forensics has to offer. As a board member of the WWDL Miranda hopes to foster a community that is inclusive, supportive and enthusiastic.
James Gibson
Board Member, Iroquois High School
James Gibson is a newer member of the debate community proudly serving as the debate team sponsor and coach for Iroquois High School for the past 4 years. He is honored to be a board member of the WWDL, representing an organization with a genuine interest in cultivating young minds through speech and debate. Mr. Gibson is here as a board member to assist in the function of the WWDL, grow the debate community, and aid in ensuring smooth operations.
Rachael Castillo
Board Member, Atherton
Rachael Castillo is a former speech competitor who entered the world of debate for the first time just three years ago . She started as a speech competitor in high school and then coached a speech team in Paducah, Kentucky for five years. In 2022, she moved to Louisville and was hired at Atherton High School, where she revived the school's speech and debate programs. Though new to debate, she is passionate about the ways that forensics can change students' lives for the better. Rachael is honored to be WWDL board member and hopes that she can make debate accessible to more students during her tenure.
